Update:
In February 2009, Roofs to Roads received a grant from the State of Colorado to get shingle recycling off the ground. This funding will end in the next month, and we expect that the shingle recycling collection points will start charging tipping fees. We are encouraging the collection points to keep the fees affordable; at this time, we anticipate that tipping fees for shingle recycling will be half of landfill fees.
Our Goals:
- to collect 5,000 tons of shingles from roofing demolition projects (1,500 tons to date)
- to pave a road in Boulder County with recycled asphalt shingles from Tear-Offs (one project complete, on North 63rd Street in Boulder County), and
- to support the development of markets for this technology.
